Discrimination Laws and the Workplace

Discrimination laws affect every aspect of the workplace from the first recruitment steps, through to managing a diverse workforce, dealing with complaints, making decisions about promotion and training, and conducting fair termination procedures.

 

This introductory module will consider the range of anti-discrimination laws and how they should be incorporated into the practices of your organisation. This module will also focus on appropriate workplace behaviours and how to manage harassment and bullying complaints.

This half day programme will cover the following topics:

•    Key discrimination principles and how they interface with your workplace

•    Recent case law examples

•    Dealing with discrimination complaints

 

 

Learning Outcomes

 

At the conclusion of this programme, participants will:

•    Be familiar with the principles of discrimination law

•    Be able to identify how the laws affect your organisation

•    Become familiar with identifying problematic behaviour in the workplace

•    Be able to identify who is responsible for dealing with breaches of discrimination laws

•    Understand how complaints are handled by State and Federal human rights commissions

•    Know what happens when a complaint goes to a hearing
